Know the do’s and don’ts of business card exchanges

While the digital age has revolutionised the way many people market their businesses, there is nothing quite as effective as handing out a business card to a potential new client. They continue to prove their value in the world of marketing and when they are presented in the correct way; they are extremely effective. However, there is a correct way to exchange business cards with someone and an incorrect way and as they are the first point of contact with someone when it comes to showing off professionalism; the last thing that should be done is insisting that someone takes a card when they initially decline it.

There is nothing worse than someone forcing a business card on someone else, so if they politely decline it then it is far better to be polite and walk away, as no one will end up using a company when a business card has been forced on them. The first thing to do is ensure that the cards look professional and expert business cards printing in Perth or in any major city anywhere in the world can be found online.

Get them Professionally Designed

Getting the cards professionally designed by a reputable printing company is the best way to ensure that the right first impression is given off.

They will need to include the following:

  • Company logo
  • Company name
  • Person’s name
  • Telephone number
  • Email address
  • Website address

Other details such as the address of the business or social media logos can be added and these are all things that a good printing company can offer advice about.

Ensure they are Readable

Lots of people think that creative business cards are the best but they are often unreadable and therefore useless. Make sure they are clear and easy to read by using a simple font in a decent size.

Know When to Hand Them Over

It is important to understand when it is a good time to hand a card over to someone.

For Example: Make sure they are not in the middle of something or the card will become a distraction and never interrupt a conversation or the card will be an irritant when they look back at it.

Try to exchange business cards at business events when people are expecting them or when they ask for one and it is vital to ensure that people have a wallet or purse full of cards that are ready to hand over at any time, as nothing looks less professional than not having a business card to hand when someone requests one.

It is a good idea to avoid handing a card over too early in a conversation, triple check it for typos and always use a reputable printing company such as Greenlea Print to print and design the cards.

Business cards are one type of marketing strategy that seems to never go out of fashion, so no matter how hard digital marketing tactics are being pushed; don’t forget the importance of having business cards to hand.
